Avid readers, (assuming there are any) might have read my first post on ‘Seemed like a good idea at the time,’ which basically told the story of a conversation in pub escalating into a road trip across Europe for eight bangers and 16 blokes – a marathon charity drive that has raised almost £11,500 to date for Air Ambulance.
Well, I’m pleased to report that all of our cars made it, which is pretty amazing considering each one was reckoned to be at the end of its useful life. Amazingly, only one of the cars got scraped. Six were given away to French bar staff (in Nice) at the final party and prize giving. One young lady picked up her new car, a bright yellow Rover 75 and promptly reversed it into another parked car. Upon completing this masterful manoeuvre, she raised both of her hands, palms skyward, in the traditional ‘oh-well’ gesture – and sped off.
Two teams actually elected to drive the 800 miles back to the UK, even though they had plane tickets, in one day!
The moral of this tale has to be ‘be careful what you agree to in your local’! Click here to see Flickr Gallery
